Do I put the sheet in the drum or the dispenser drawer?

The drum, directly on top of your clothes before you load them. Dispenser drawers are designed for liquid and a sheet can get stuck. This is the most common first-time mistake and the easiest one to avoid.

How many sheets do I use per load?

One sheet is one load — not one machine. Use 1 sheet for a normal load, 2 sheets for a full machine, bedding, towels or anything visibly dirty, and 3 sheets for sports kit, work clothes, pet bedding or heavily soiled loads in hard water.

A sheet is a fixed dose sized for a normal load, so a bigger or dirtier load needs the dose scaled up — the same as it would with a measuring cap, minus the guesswork. Under-dosing is the most common reason people think sheets do not clean well. If a wash comes out less fresh than you hoped, add a sheet next time. You are not doing anything wrong by using two.

Do laundry sheets work in cold water?

Yes. Blue Bird sheets dissolve fully in cold, warm and hot cycles. If you run very short cold cycles, tearing the sheet in half before adding it helps it dissolve faster.

Are laundry detergent sheets safe for HE washers?

Yes, and for standard machines too, front-loading or top-loading. Sheets are low-sudsing, which is exactly what high-efficiency machines require. Adding a second sheet to a large load will not oversuds an HE machine.

Do laundry sheets actually clean as well as liquid?

A sheet contains the same cleaning agents as liquid detergent, without the water used to dilute and ship them. What a sheet gives you that a measuring cap does not is a known quantity — you always know exactly how much detergent went in, so when a load needs more, you add one more unit instead of guessing.

Will they remove tough stains?

For everyday wear, sweat, food and general grime, yes. For set-in stains like oil or red wine, pre-treat first, exactly as you would with liquid detergent. No detergent of any kind removes a set-in stain in a single normal wash.

Do they work in hard water?

Hard water reduces the effectiveness of every detergent, not only sheets — minerals bind up some of the cleaning agents before they reach your clothes. If you are in a hard water area, make two sheets on full loads your default rather than your exception.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, on every order within the United States. There is no minimum and no threshold to reach. Sheets ship flat and weigh almost nothing, so we do not see a reason to charge you for it.

How many loads are in a box?

Eighty sheets per box, which is 80 normal loads. At $19.99 that works out to about 25 cents per normal load. The Household Pack of three boxes brings it down to 20 cents. If you run a lot of bedding, towels or work clothes, you will get through a box faster — that is what the larger packs are for.

Are Blue Bird sheets safe for sensitive skin?

Our Fragrance Free sheets contain no added fragrance and no dyes, which is what most people with sensitive skin are looking for. As with any new detergent, patch-test a single item first if anyone in your household has reactive skin.

Can I use fabric softener with them?

You can, though most people find they do not need to. Residue from overpoured liquid detergent is a common reason fabrics feel stiff, and that goes away on its own with pre-measured sheets.

How should I store them?

Anywhere dry. The sheets keep indefinitely and the box is flat enough to sit in a drawer, a cupboard or a suitcase.
